Arrival/Dismissal Procedures

O.A. Peterson Elementary School

O.A. PETERSON Afternoon Dismissal Procedures

Have your car visor identification sign attached to rear view mirror or sun visor. Identification is not easily visible if placed on the dash.

•Each child will receive a car visor identification sign at “Meet the Teacher” that details the child's name and teacher name. This sign  must be visible in the car visor as you pull into the loading zones. Visibility of the sign will assist us in providing a safe and smooth  process. For safety reasons, students may not be dismissed to cars without their school-provided identification sign.

To increase safety and help expedite dismissal, students will be dismissed in the following locations:

•Pre-K, Kindergarten, First Grade - Back of the school.

•Second Grade, Third Grade, Fourth Grade, and Fifth Grade - Front of the school.

•Siblings will dismiss together, from the youngest child’s grade level

Pre-K - 1 car riders and older siblings will be picked up in the back of the school.

•There will be two lines of cars for back dismissal. Teachers will be supervising students’ departure.

•For safety and consistency, cars will form a line from the back of the school down to the stop sign of Frosted Willow and Los  BarrosTrail. The car line will continue straight down Los Barros and a left down Laurel Forest Drive.

•If you are driving in from Winter Hawk or Golden Triangle, use the back entrance of Los Barros to form the line.

Grades 2 - 5 CAR RIDERS

•2-5 car riders will be picked up in the front of the school.

•There will be one line of cars for front dismissal until all buses have pulled forward. Once all buses are in place, two lines will be formed.

•For safety and consistency, cars will form a line in front of the school, then down Winter Hawk Drive staying on the left hand side.

•Students riding their bike home will be escorted by a staff member to the appropriate crosswalk at back of school

•Bike riders must wear a helmet (it’s the law), and they must walk their bikes while on school property. This is a safety issue and should be discussed with your children.

•Walkers will dismiss from the exit that is in the direction of their house. There is an EAST (Frosted Willow and WEST  Devinstone) crosswalk in the front, and one crosswalk in the back.

•Students who are walking will be escorted by a staff member to the appropriate cross walk and released.

•All students riding a day care bus will dismiss from the front of the school.

•All students in PPCD will drop off’/dismiss from the front of the school

•All students riding Durham transportation bus will dismiss from the back of the school.
